The hordes are a good idea, but the shape of it makes the game really lopsided, the borders are a little unintuitive and the graphics, well... it's a good effort.
It's got good balance, and is fun to play. Lots of options to ensure your beating the other guys. Also, enough territories and borders to lose a bit before you win!
The graphics work are simple, but create a less engaging feeling than the board merits.
This board is well balanced, big enough that there is some room for error, and allows for lots of different opportunities and strategies to win.
I like the layout, and would recommend it with more than two players. It'd be perfect, but it has some learning curve, and there are definitely ways to make mistakes. Watch out for the capital in the middle.
I like this board. I wish there was a way to keep the edges from being more powerful than the centres, but the use of stairs does allow for choke points.
If you get bad luck, sorry it's not going to work out for you.
All in all though, great theme, tight gameplay, and alright balance. Don't look for a lot of back and forth on this one.
...and it's fun.
There are definitely better places to start on this board than others. As well, if you waste your units on the neutrals, your sunk. Hope for good dice, and watch for the victory cascade. First one to get an edge will definitely get the chance to take it!
That said, good concept and I like the theme. Fair Board.
I've only played 5 or 6 times, so forgive me, but I find it hard to do anything but kamikazi or die on this board. Starting position is a big factor, the loss to neutral is high, dice play a giant part, I don't see varied strategies and It's a super quick game everytime.
I think with some more thought and balancing it could turn into a good game.
The kind of board you always dreamed you could play when you were a kid:
"...if only there was another Australia, then I could win this..."
Really though, it's only ok.
Sadly, in implementation, the board just ends up with alot of easy to capture continents, and some other connecting territories, so once you're established -no matter where- it's game over.
This board is perfect. It has great balance, looks amazing with lots of colors, allows for good strategic play, balanced with dice weights.
Superb!
